It is 1996, I am 15 years old, living in Edinburgh. The internet is a new thing to most people but I have already been online for over a year with a computer that is probably about the speed of a calculator these days. Of course, it is the days of chat rooms and MSN messenger, and you have to have a cool “handle” to look “l33t” amongst your “m8s”. It is not just today’s kids that have their own weird and wonderful vocabularies, we had our own back then, almost 30 years ago, adults thought us crazy with the things we would say, but I think we turned out ok in the end.
I decided to change my screen name after a Britpop indie band single that had been released in February of that year. The band was Echobelly, and the single was Dark Therapy. When my Mum found out my online name she hit the roof! She believed I was offering some weird sex favors online to people or had joined a cult. Of course, none were true, but looking back I was probably talking to people I should not have been talking to who would have been put on some list or carted off by the Social Media police for talking to minors these days. She made me change my name to something more “wholesome” so I became Moozikgal – and that has stuck with me since then, but I was always Dark Therapy first and foremost at heart.
Fast forward to February 2024 and I am now gung-ho that I am going to open a shop. I need a new name and a rebrand for the business that is all-encompassing of what I want to achieve. It then came to me, Dark Therapy. I had come full circle in 28 years, and it felt right. Plus my Mum is no longer around to berate me over a name, though I think this time around she would have approved, with her being an esoteric pagan and all. I am sure she’s keeping a watchful eye on me and what I am up to though.
Dark Therapy Shop LTD is a Crystal and Witches Apocothary based in Blackpool in the North West of England. We opened our doors to the public on 24th September 2024 after finding the perfect shop location just a few weeks earlier. It was a tight turnaround for us to get everything ready and the doors open to the public, but we did it with a few all-nighters and some tears, we are proud of what we have achieved. We specialise in stocking a wide variety of crystals, including towers, spheres, tumbles, carvings, and raw specimens. We also have a wide selection of witches herbs, spices, and spell blends, currently, our count is somewhere around 70 different spell herb pouches and tubes. A lovely selection of Sage along with the traditional abalone shells and turkey feathers for use in smoke cleansing rituals. To compliment all the lovely witchy products we stock, we have a full complement of incense, clothing and cosplay items, decorative statues for the home and your altar, books on the paranormal from TikTok authors, jewellery, and much more. To be able to take into the full scope of everything we have to offer you do need to visit Dark Therapy in person. The stock listed on the website will not be the same as in the shop. We cannot list all our crystals for example as stock changes so quickly. We can, however, provide WhatsApp personal video call shopping experiences if you are not local to us, we will happily take you on a tour of the shop by video call where you can pick and choose your own basket of items – with free shipping over £20 spend.
